Events & Activities for Teachers in Abuja - By Eldad Akhaumere

As the term winds down and the weeks of preparation for graduation ceremonies and parties come to an end, August ushers in a month-long holiday, a very essential period that allows you as a teacher to relax, rewind, reboot, and spend more quality time with family.

This period also provides a great opportunity for self improvement ahead of the next term. Is there a new skill you've been itching to learn, that course you’ve always wanted to take, a book you’ve been trying to get your hands on? This is the time to do just that! But where and how can you get started? This article is designed to assist you every step of the way. Here are some events and programs we have curated just for you to enjoy the holiday in Abuja!

If you're curious about how to integrate tech in your classroom or school, or about improving your teaching techniques & strategies, here are some events you should definitely attend:

Exceptional Teacher Conference 2025:
  • Date: Monday, August 4th, 2025
  • Time: 9:00 AM (West African Time)
  • Venue: Digital Resource Centre, Jahi, Abuja
  • Theme: Empowering Educators: Strengthening Resilience, Building Sustainability
  • Organizers: The Educators Hub Africa

The Crochet Summit, Abuja 2025:
  • Date: Tuesday, August 5th – Thursday, August 7th, 2025
  • Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (West African Time)
  • Venue: 28 Okemesi Crescent, Agbègbè Olúìlú Ìjọba Àpapọ̀ Abùjá 900103
  • Theme: Reviving the Old Skill of Crocheting
  • Organizers: Yeye Adesola's World, in collaboration with the QA Department, Education Secretariat, FCTA.
  • Registration: Free! Register at The Crochet Summit
  • Side Attractions: Music, refreshments, crochet marketplace, live demonstrations, and networking

    All work and no play also makes a dull teacher too! This August, here are some fun activities you can do to relax and unwind within Abuja:


    Crushed Rock Quarry Hike & Picnic
    • Venue: Mpape Hills, near Maitama
    • Price: Free (self-guided) or ₦5,000–₦15,000 (with a guided tour)

    It boasts of having one of the most beautiful sights and cliffs in Abuja! Its a grea place for hiking, with a lake as a side attractionA scenic abandoned quarry turned hiking destination with cliffs and a turquoise lake. Great for weekend relaxation, group photoshoots, or a wellness morning. Early visits (before 10 AM) are ideal to avoid the midday heat.


    Korean Cultural Center Workshops
    • Venue: Korean Cultural Centre, Rivers House, Central Business District
    • Price: Free – ₦2,000 per class (depends on activity)

    Offers cultural immersion experiences such as Korean language crash courses, calligraphy, K-pop dance classes, and taekwondo sessions. You can join evening classes and go with a friend!


    Jabi Lake Boat Ride & Mall:
    • Venue: Jabi Lake Park & Mall, Jabi District
    • Price: ₦2,000–₦7,000 depending on activity (e.g., boat rides, bike rental, meals)

    You can relax by the lake or enjoy shopping, live music and more to recharge and feel refreshed. There are paddle boats, electric scooters, and food courts with local and continental dishes. Why not try them out and have a splash!.

    Millennium Park Leisure Walk & Picnic:
    • Venue: Millennium Park, Maitama
    • Price: Free

    A visit to the largest public park in Abuja is a great way to have fun and relax! You could explore fountains and gardens there as an individual or with your family!

    Cultural Day at Nike Art Gallery Abuja:
    • Venue: Nike Art Gallery, Along Airport-Road Lugbe, Abuja
    • Price: Free entry; art pieces are for sale (₦5,000 upward)

    You can take out time to explore our traditional art, textiles, and sculptures as reinvented at Nike Art Gallery. You can visit as an individual or join the weekend gallery tours.
